Montigo Resorts, Somerset, at Charlton House has opened in the idyllic market town of Shepton Mallet, in the Mendip District of Somerset, England. Moments away from the rolling hills of Frome, Wells and Glastonbury, the hotel is a discreet country retreat, with a relaxed, informal vibe.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Rt Hon James Heappey, Minister of State for the Armed Forces and MP for Wells, Mr Mayor of Wells, Cllr Tanys Pullin, Mayor of Glastonbury, Cllr Indra Donfrancesco, and Chairman of The Street Parish Council, Cllr Bryan Knickerbocker.
The Regency period estate, featuring an historic 28-room country house hotel and spa, three restaurants, and beautiful gardens, is heralding its new future following its recent acquisition by luxury hospitality experts KOP Limited.
Speaking at the opening, Ms Chih Ching ONG, Executive Chairman and Executive Director of KOP Limited, said: “We are thrilled to be introducing Montigo Resorts’ warm, welcoming blend of excellence in Asian hospitality to Somerset, where our guests will feel cherished, and pampered for ‘generations to come’. Charlton House is an impressive property of distinction, and we are committed to honouring its history, and working with the local community to thoughtfully restore the estate to its full potential.”
Since purchasing the estate in March this year, considerable investment, and effort to improve the facilities has already been made by KOP Limited, using local businesses and materials wherever possible, with even more stunning restorative refurbishments still to come.
A bright botanical conservatory restaurant, a charming bistro, and an al fresco bar and grill make for three exciting on-site dining options. A thermal spa with bathhouse, with therapy treatment rooms and a fitness centre can also be enjoyed by Charlton House Members and hotel guests, as can the bucolic grounds and lounges. With 28 individually designed bedrooms and suites, and notable charms such as the glorious Regency Orangery, a whimsical folly, and Charlton’s own apple orchard, the country house is a highly desirable pet and family-friendly escape for mini-breaks, foodie and wellness retreats, weddings, and celebrations.
